Since ‘Active Citizen’ is a registered brand-name of the British Council, it was conducted with its collaboration. As the coordinator of the course unit, I made arrangements with the British Council to provide half of the stationary items free of charge, which were needed to conduct the programme for 635 students. The programme was conducted in two sessions. The first session was from the 03rd to 06th of March 2020. The second session was from the 17th to 20th of March 2020. - “பவனியைப் பாரும்” – a collection of very ancient Tamil classical melodies sung at the procession on the Feast Day of Mother Mary. Sillalai is an ancient Catholic village in the North of the Jaffna Peninsula where the existence of Christianity predates the arrival of Portuguese to Sri Lanka. The specialty in the village is that the classical melodies (விருத்தப் பா) dedicated to Mother Mary are handed on to the generations traditionally for last three hundred years. There is a fear that the future generations might not pursue these classical and traditional melodies due to the adverse effects of modernity and globalization. In order preserve these valuable melodies I made an effort to collect these classical (விருத்தப் பாக்கள்) from the existing senior artists and surviving documents and tried to digitalize for the documentation purpose. It received a popular and enthusiastic welcome from all the people beyond the religious boundaries who love the classics.
