On 22 December 2025, the Department of Christian Civilization of the University of Jaffna, in collaboration with the Good Shepherd Chaplaincy, organized its annual Christmas Carol Prayer Service at the Library Auditorium under the theme “Celebrating the Incarnation:  God among us, in harmony with the many voices of faith.” The event unfolded in a spirit of simplicity and spiritual depth, reflecting the nation’s circumstances following the Ditvah Cyclone. In place of lavish festivities, the programme emphasized the true meaning of Christmas the Incarnation of God as an expression of divine presence, compassion, and solidarity with humanity.

The service welcomed all participants as guests in the spirit of inclusivity and community, with special recognition given to Very Rev. Dr. P. J. Jebaratnam, Vicar General of the Diocese of Jaffna; Prof. S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna; and Rt. Rev. Dr. Jebanesan, Retired Bishop of JDCSI. Their presence and messages of hope highlighted enduring spiritual values that transcend challenges and unite the university community.

The programme combined music, reflection, and fellowship in an atmosphere of reverence and unity. Highlights included the Lighting of the Advent Beams, symbolizing Christ as the Light of the world; Carol Singing by diverse religious and denominational groups, affirming interreligious harmony; reflections on the Interreligious Significance of the Incarnation; and Spiritual Meditations on Emmanuel – God with us. The joyful arrival of Sancta Claus and sharing of Christmas gifts added a note of generosity and childlike wonder, while the Fellowship of Christmas Dolce brought participants together in warmth and celebration.

The event succeeded in fostering inclusiveness, reflection, and compassion within the university community. Its modest yet meaningful tone conveyed resilience and solidarity in light of recent hardships, while the interreligious carol singing and shared reflections exemplified the Department’s mission to promote dialogue between faith and culture.

The 2025 Carol Prayer Service stands out as a spiritually enriching and community‑strengthening occasion that harmonized faith, culture, and humanity. It reaffirmed the Department of Christian Civilization’s role as a bridge between traditions, academic reflection, and communal peace‑building – celebrating Emmanuel, God among us, in harmony with the many voices of faith.
