On 20 May 2025, the Department of Christian Civilization at the University of Jaffna organized a special academic event titled “Christian Gender Perspectives.” The distinguished speaker was Dr. J. Kulandai, OFM, from the Department of Linguistics, University of Madras, India.
In his lecture, Dr. Kulandai engaged students and faculty in a critical exploration of gender issues within Christian thought and practice. He highlighted how gender perspectives have evolved in theological discourse and emphasized the importance of addressing contemporary challenges through inclusive and dialogical approaches. Drawing on both linguistic and theological insights, he underscored the need to re examine traditional frameworks in order to foster equality, justice, and mutual respect within Christian communities.
The event provided valuable guidance to the academic community, offering fresh perspectives on how Christian studies can contribute to broader conversations on gender in society. Students and the members of the Department benefited from the lecture, which enriched ongoing discussions on faith, culture, and social responsibility at the University of Jaffna.
The Department of Christian Civilization expressed its appreciation for Dr. Kulandai’s contribution, noting that his reflections will serve as an important resource for future research and dialogue on gender and Christianity.
