On 25 November 2025, the Department of Christian Civilization of the University of Jaffna, together with the Student Christian Movement (SCM), held their fourth collaborative encounter, continuing a partnership rooted in dialogue, service, and youth formation. This year’s initiative moved beyond the classroom into the community with a visit to the Elders’ Home at Irupalai, Kopay, run by the Missionaries of Charity.
Students and faculty engaged in fellowship with the residents through cultural offerings, voluntary service (Shramadhana), and shared reflection, creating moments of joy, gratitude, and solidarity. More than an act of charity, the encounter embodied the essence of community outreach, practicing solidarity and translating convictions into credible public witness.
The event highlighted the department’s commitment to integrating academic formation with lived service, nurturing values of compassion, justice, and communal responsibility. In Sri Lanka’s plural context, such initiatives stand as meaningful demonstrations of peace building and justice seeking, making student learning tangible in the public square.
