The Uduvil Conference – 2024, a significant academic and theological event, was held on June 1, 2024, at Uduvil Girls’ College. Organized by the Theological Team of the Jaffna Christian Union, this prestigious conference has been a platform for intellectual and social engagement since its inception in 1944, emphasizing the social involvement of Christianity in contemporary issues.
The Department of Christian Civilization, University of Jaffna, played an active role in the organization and execution of this year’s conference. Both faculty members and students participated, contributing to discussions and engaging in thought-provoking dialogues. The Head of the Department and faculty members led key discussions on the conference theme, facilitating meaningful academic exchanges among participants.
A highlight of the conference was the lecture by Dr. S. Jeevasuthan, Senior Lecturer in Sociology, who served as a resource person. He delivered an orientation session on “The Formation of Change Makers: Engagement Spirituality in Sociological Perspective.” His presentation provided valuable insights into how spirituality can inspire social change, equipping participants with perspectives on leadership and social responsibility within a Christian framework.
The Department of Christian Civilization is honoured to have collaborated in the successful organization of this event. The department recognizes the Uduvil Conference as an important forum for engaging in theological, philosophical, and social discourse, and remains committed to supporting such initiatives that promote academic excellence, spiritual growth, and social engagement.
