On 22 May 2026, the Department of Christian & Islamic Civilizations organized a special guest lecture on the theme “God in Neighboring Religions and Divine Experiences beyond Religious Boundaries.” The event took place at the Seminar Hall of the Faculty of Arts, University of Jaffna.
The lecture was delivered by Rev. Professor James Ponniah, Head of the Department of Christian Studies at the University of Madras, and a distinguished scholar in interfaith harmony and comparative religious studies.
In his address, Rev. Professor Ponniah emphasized the importance of religious harmony in a pluralistic society. He discussed key themes such as religious diversity, cultural commonalities among faith communities, shared sacred spaces, and spiritual experiences that transcend institutional boundaries. He highlighted how these perspectives can foster social unity and mutual understanding among communities.
The event was further enriched by the presence of Rev. Fr. Martin, a renowned researcher, as a special guest. The programme was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Hindu Studies, professors, heads of departments, lecturers, and a large number of students.
The discussion provided valuable academic insights into comparative religion and social harmony, encouraging new perspectives and intellectual engagement among participants.
